Before You Pack
-
Declutter: Before you start packing, go through your belongings and get rid of anything you don't need, want, or use.
-
Gather Supplies: Collect the right types of boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, markers, and other materials.
-
Create a Plan: Make a list of what needs to be done and when.
-
Book Movers Early: Secure a reputable moving company well in advance of your moving date.
Packing Tips
- Pack by Room: Work through one room at a time to keep things organised.
- Use the Right Boxes: Use appropriately sized boxes and avoid overloading them.
- Protect Fragile Items: Wrap breakable items individually in bubble wrap or other soft materials like towels or clothes.
- Don't Overpack: Keep heavy items in smaller boxes to avoid injuries and make them easier to transport.
- Label Everything: Clearly label each box with its contents and the room it belongs to at the new home.
- Use Everyday Items: Utilise items like dish towels, blankets, and even socks to cushion breakable items.
Moving Day
- Stay fueled: Have water bottles and easy-to-eat snacks like fruit and energy bars readily available to keep you and any movers energized.
- Keep essentials handy: Keep your essentials box and suitcase separate from other boxes so you can easily access them when you arrive at your new home.
- Keep valuables with you: Place valuable items in your personal vehicle to prevent damage or theft.
- Have a toolkit: Keep a toolkit with essentials like a hammer and screwdriver handy for minor repairs or adjustments.
- Document meter readings: Make a note of the meter readings for electricity, gas, and water at both your old and new homes.
- Do a final walkthrough: Check all windows and doors are shut and locked before leaving the old property.
